Our schools have progressively become unsafe over the last few decades. We no longer pray in schools, nor do we allow the administrators to discipline the children with corporal punishment. We would rather that a lone gunman enter the school and commit the horrible acts of murder upon innocent children. This is a very tragic state of affairs. Since no one can seem to solve the issue of active shooters committing such violent crimes, it is contingent upon our young children to be attentive to the school environment at all times. That means paying attention to absolutely everything. Most persons who choose to enter the schools with weapons have usually displayed anti-social behaviors in the past. They have been victims of bullying or some form of personal attack on social media or in the school setting, itself.
These persons are often very quiet and do not display the interpersonal skills to handle any type of attack that comes their way. Often the answer to these attacks is to obtain a weapon of some sort, return to the school and carry out the worst carnage with the loss of human life. That is why each and every student that sees something, needs to not only say something, but do something. Action in this case speaks much, much louder than words. Doing something means notifying school personnel immediately and informing their parents of what may soon become imminent danger. Doing something also means speaking up when the student witnesses bullying by other students on the victim in question. Doing something is critical to the overall survival and safety of every student and administrator present on campus. The concept of doing nothing is no longer an option. Students must be encouraged to report activity to school administrators and law enforcement officials to ensure each and every student is given the daily benefit to attend school in a safe and secure environment.
